Yes, this is the obligatory “nearing the end of the season, get ready for docks out” column, and everyone knows the drill. But just in case, please plan to be at docks out on Saturday, November 7. It seems to me that the season just started. Yes, yes, time flies as we age, and I’m getting it, but I always hate to see the season end. There is sadness to winterizing the boats and the clubhouse. But, in a few months, spring will renew our spirits and we’ll be off to new adventures in sailing.
This year has been very interesting for me. I have really enjoyed being Commodore. This is, by far, the best job in the rotation. I have worked with a great group of members who comprise the board, and with many active members who continue, in so many ways, to help keep the club running smoothly. It is amazing to witness the love of sailing and of the club by so many.
One event that will be my fondest memory of this year is the Founder’s Day Celebration. This served as the Commodores’ Reception and was attended by a large number of former Commodores. It was wonderful to hear old stories and talk with such a distinguished group. I wish everyone could have attended, and I hope we do it again sometime soon. My sincere thanks to Kathy Muenz for planning, arranging, decorating, producing, and directing this event. She did an outstanding job. And thanks to all of her volunteers who made this possible.
As many of you know, the Board has been discussing young adult and “kayak” memberships. Please read the proposed changes, elsewhere in the Mainsheet, and call me if you have any questions. I will be happy to discuss this with you (cell 614-361-6840).
And now, for some news. The City of Columbus has put the sewer project back online. They are mandated by Ohio EPA to connect us to the sewer, and they finally have a contractor interested in bidding on the job. I don’t know who, but the city did tell me that it will cost more than originally thought. It’s not our problem, but I don’t like hearing that, especially since our septic tank works fine, as long as we maintain it. I have no timetable for the project, but I’ll let you know when I hear more. So, have fun as we enjoy the rest of the season, and I’ll be seeing you at the club.
