Thistle Day Update…
Two Sundays past, we held a Thistle day. It was a gorgeous day on the water with five boats in attendance. Wind was out of the southwest and was arriving in bands of pressure. Staying in the pressure proved to be the key to success, though boats were tight at most mark roundings despite taking different routes between. Because of the threat of thunderstorms, the RC (JP Clowes) ran three short races for us instead of the normal two. Dick Harmon and Sarah Geisse took the first bullet in a tight finish with Bob France and Tammy Chapman. Kevin Tschantz and ? rounded out the top three finishers. Paul Kreitler and Erin Sherer shot into the lead on the run of the second race to take a bullet with Bob and Tammy right on their heels. Evan Rodgers, Tyler Elteringham, and Lucy were just behind them in third. The final race saw Bob and Tammy claim the top spot followed by Harmon, Tschantz, and Kreitler. Rodgers unfortuantely had to head back in before the race began.
Following races, all the teams headed up to the deck for drinks and delicious appetizers. We were also witnesses to a spectacular event. After much work and preparation, the Myers family launched their new Thistle 2621! John actually got to sail it for a short while before Marcus took the tiller. I’m not sure John’s had it in his hand again since…
Word has it that Marcus is thinking of campaigning the boat next summer at Junior Bayweek. That would make THREE junior teams from LYC! Awesome! Congratulations to the Myers family. We all look forward to seeing you out on the water.
