How to use the LYC website

Welcome to the LYC website!  Our website is a great place to findout about LYC, upcoming events, find a crew, or share sailing news.  The site is designed so that members can add and edit news articles, classifieds, or crew announcements.

Registration

Before you can begin, however, you will need to have a username and password.  This can be done on the registration page and is open to LYC members only.  When registering, please use your first and last name as a user name.  This allows us to verify that you are a club member and allows others to know who posted an article.  User names that cannot be verified as club members will be deleted.

Once your registration has been verified, you will recieve an e-mail at the address listed on your profile.  this may take several days, depending on how busy the web administrator is.

Logging in

Once your account is active, you may log in by following the login link under the "website" menu on the left side of the screen.

Once logged in, you will be able to view articles only available to the membership.  These may include crew wanted / available messages, Mainsheet articles, or other club business.  You can also access the administration page, found on the "website" menu.

Administration

Once at the administration page, you will find a menu of the right side that allows you to create or edit articles

Articles

By following the "Add Article" link, you be presented with a page that allows you to choose the category of the article (drop down menu of where it will appear), the title of the article, add an excerpt for the category page, as well as the entire text of the article.  You may cut and paste the article from a word document.  Unfortunately, images cannot be added at this time.

Options

Arter the article text, you will find the following options:

  • Article image (leave blank)
  • Article comments- enable or disable (this allows user to leave comments attached to the article if enabled.  comments are alway restricted to LYC members who are logged in)
  • Article level- (selecting "any" means anyone on the internet can view the article, selecting "user" means only LYC members who are logged in can view the article)

After reviewing these options, press "Submit" and you article will appear in the category selected.  you may edit your own articles at anytime from the "administration" page.
